Animal Bite Safety

Nearly 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs each year. Of those who are bitten, 60% are children. One in five dog bites result in injuries serious enough to require medical attention. Any dog of any breed has the potential to bite.

Tips

• Never approach a strange dog that is not on a leash. It is important to always ask the owner before you pet their dog.

Always have dogs smell you before you pet them. Be gentle with dogs and do not bother them when they are sleeping or eating.
